HOME, WITH NOTHING TO SAY... YET!
Wednesday, Apr. 23, 2003 @ 4:52 pm

Well, well, well. Not a single post while out on the road. I realize that I should be ashamed. You'll have to forgive me. I was unlucky enough to have my first experience with panic attacks while out and about on the Midwest/East Coast portion of the tour, and that kept me busy trying to breath, sleep, and eat. Fifteen pounds lighter, but alive, I'm back. I do have plenty of stories (DLA the rapper from Fargo, the owner of the High 5 in Columbus winning her bar in a poker game with her dad, the burned and bombed city of Detroit, and offended folks in Pittsburgh regarding my Mister Rogers number...) Stay tuned. I'll get some words up here soon. Until then, thank you to everyone that came out to the shows. The West Coast leg of the tour with Damien Jurado is sneaking up on us soon! Hope to see some of you at the shows. See dates below.

ABOUT THE BOOK

"My name is Ernie Baxter, and my hands are tied. My history has passed to the memories and stories of my mother and ex-girlfriend. Bosses and co-workers. Bartenders and insurance agents. Friends and gym teachers."

In this unique novel, Adam Voith mixes crisply written prose with the deft comic illustrations of underground artist Mike Lowery, delivering a witty and transcendental story of the legacy one man hoped to leave behind, and the twisted myth that actually remains.

"You do things, say things, in hopes that you will remain intact, removed from speculation and locked safely away in memories, but it's not to be. Memory, in fact, might be the greatest liar of all time. The most deceptive of sinners. The real face of death."

The body of Ernie Baxter was just buried in the frozen earth of an Indiana winter, but Ernie's story is far from over. From beyond the pale, this newcomer to the heavenly scene observes the folks left down below - notably, his mother and onetime girlfriend Kyra - grieving his unexpected death. Kyra's husband Dain, a phony redneck with a trust-fund and a snowplow, wonders what the fuss is about.

At the request of Ernie's mother, the reluctant Kyra - pregnant and at the peak of a mismatched marriage gone wrong - is charged with the dubious task of searching Ernie's laptop computer for any information a mourning mother might want to keep. Inside that machine, Kyra discovers the private notes of an underground comedian named Ernie Baxter: bitter, detached, and seemingly unafraid of anything resembling the truth.

But no one had said anything about comedy, not even at the funeral. In her search for the real story behind the missing years Ernie spent away on the west coast, Kyra wades through stories of fast food for religion, rock and roll clichés, self-inflicted wounds for video game failures… and all the while, four people on a stage somewhere in Seattle try desperately not to piss themselves.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

With his mid-brow championed micro-press TNI BOOKS, Adam Voith has quietly and without agitation made a name for himself in the shivering world of independent publishing. The tiny but feisty Seattle-based press is owned and operated by Adam and his wife Joy, and released as its first title a collection of Adam's stories titled Bridges With Spirit. Since then, there have been several other books and book-like projects published by TNI BOOKS, including recent titles by Camden Joy and David Shields, as well the celebrated Little Engines magazine.
